Salvation Army to start programs

Beginning Friday, the Salvation Army will be placing its red kettles all over Fresno and Clovis and putting its Startree program into place at area malls as part of its annual holiday effort to help the disadvantaged.

The Startree allows underprivileged children to fill out cards saying what they want for Christmas. At a Startree booth, people can chose a star from the tree and buy a gift for the child named on the card.

Local malls that have chipped in to help with Startree include Fashion Fair, Manchester and Sierra Vista, said a spokesman for the Salvation Army.
